About the Non-Executive role

Non‑Executive Directors play a vital role in ensuring Skateboard GB is well‑governed, values‑led and sustainable for the long term.

Across all Non‑Executive roles, Board members are collectively responsible for the success of the organisation. Working alongside the Chair, fellow Directors and the executive team, Non‑Executive Directors provide strategic leadership, oversight and independent challenge, helping Skateboard GB to balance ambition with accountability and stewardship.

In line with the Tier 3 Code for Sports Governance, the Board is responsible for setting the organisation’s direction and culture, safeguarding public funding, and ensuring that Skateboard GB operates with integrity, transparency and effective decision‑making. Non‑Executive Directors are central to this responsibility, bringing independence of thought, professional perspective and sound judgement to Board discussions.

These are non‑executive, governance‑level roles, not operational ones. Non‑Executive Directors do not manage day‑to‑day delivery. Instead, they:

  • Help shape and safeguard Skateboard GB’s purpose, values and long‑term strategy
  • Hold the executive team to account for delivery, performance and use of resources
  • Ensure appropriate oversight of risk, finance, welfare, safeguarding and compliance
  • Contribute to a Board culture that is inclusive, open, well‑informed and effective

While each role brings a different emphasis – whether performance, people and culture, or finance and risk – all Non‑Executive Directors contribute to the collective leadership of the organisation. This includes taking an active interest in how governance decisions affect organisational culture, leadership health, performance sustainability and the communities Skateboard GB exists to serve.

You do not need a background in skateboarding, or even in sport, to be effective in a Non‑Executive role at Skateboard GB. We welcome experience from across sport, charity, not‑for‑profit, public‑interest and mission‑led environments. What matters most is your ability to see the bigger picture, ask the right questions, and contribute with clarity, integrity and care.

Non‑Executive Directors are expected to prepare diligently, participate fully in Board and Committee discussions, and act at all times in the best interests of Skateboard GB and the wider skateboarding community.
